I was absolutely delighted to know that The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas new print/translation in the US by Penguin Classics sold out. I urge everyone who can to read it! It’s a marvelous book, one of the great Brazilian classics and the author, Machado de Assis was a man of color (who was historically whitewashed, unfortunately), utterly brilliant and widely regarded as THE greatest writer in Brazilian literature.
If you’re looking for something outside of USA-Europe, give it a try! I wish more people knew Machado de Assis because he deserves the recognition.
